Aston Villa sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City for £100million three-and-a-half years ago, but their former captain is now worth nowhere near that transfer fee

Jack Grealish is now more than halfway through the six-year contract signed when joining Manchester City from Aston Villa.
Well over 1,000 days after Man City paid £100 million to make Grealish the most expensive English player ever, they would do well to recoup even half that amount if they were to sell this summer. The player is no longer a regular in Pep Guardiola 's team, starting just six Premier League matches this season.

He was also not named in Thomas Tuchel 's first England squad, despite receiving a recall from Lee Carsley this autumn after Gareth Southgate did not name Grealish in his European Championship squad last summer. Those factors all contribute to his plummeting market value over recent months.
After peaking at £84million (€100million) on Transfermarkt in early October 2021 - a £30million rise from the end of the 2020/21 season - it has now fallen below £30million for the first time in approaching five years. His value dipped to £67million within months of joining Man City, falling further below £60million by the summer of 2022.
However, it rebounded after the 2022/23 season to £63million. Since then, Grealish's valuation has steadily declined in just over two years and is currently at £29million, down from £50million when this season started, and £55million below his peak valuation on the website four years ago.
That barely puts him in the world's top 200 most valuable players and 90th across the Premier League, level with Ezri Konsa and Youri Tielemans but just above Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey (both £27million).
Grealish ranks fifth among his contemporaries born in 1995, with Ollie Watkins now first, level with Joshua Kimmich. As for English players, he ranks 28th behind Marcus Rashford, Morgan Rogers and Watkins (all £42million). Amadou Onana (£46million), Boubacar Kamara (£32million) and Pau Torres (£34million) are the other Villa players ahead of Grealish as of 18 March 2025.
