A 'fulfilled' Bruno Guimaraes is relishing being a champion with Newcastle United after coming good on his promise to bring silverware to Tyneside. The dust may be beginning to settle a few days on but the Brazilian's tears of unbridled joy on the Wembley turf will live long in the memory of black and white fans.
However, there no late night party into the early hours of Monday for Guimaraes as he and fellow countryman Joelinton enjoyed an early night before flying out to link up with their international team mates for upcoming clashes with Argentina and Colombia.
After touching down in his home country just hours after the Newcastle triumph, Bruno told reporters: “It is a remarkable achievement for us, for the history of the club, everything that represents to the fans. I'm happy and fulfilled.”
He added: “[We’re in a] Good moment, the more you earn, the more responsibility. This shirt is heavy and many don't have patience.”
The task for Bruno and Newcastle now is ending the season on a high with Champions League qualification a real possibility. This, despite the fact the Magpies have already booked their place in the Europa Conference League.
In the short term, Guimaraes' attention will turn to matters in his native South America as Brazil aim to qualify for - and then win - the World Cup in 2026, ending a 24-year drought on the biggest stage of them all.
"It's something I've been dreaming of every night since I arrived, the biggest goal is the World Cup,” he said. “There's a lot missing, but I think about it every night.
"I hope we get this effect. I was little in 2002, I went to the party when the national team arrived. We go through a lot in terms of country, a title would be something wonderful for our population.”
