Southampton Considering Alternative To Danny Rohl

Wednesday, 19th Mar 2025 14:00

Sheffield Wednesday supporters might be pleased to hear that Saints are said to be looking at an alternative to Danny Rohl, should the Owls owner play hard ball in the summer over the high by out clause that would need to be paid. The man in question that Southampton are pursuing according to [footballleagueworld.co.uk](http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/southampton-eye-liam-rosenior-after-links-to-sheffield-wednesdays-danny-rohl/) is Liam Rosenior.

The 40 year old former Hull Manager is currently at French Ligue 1 Strasbourg.

Rosenior has extensive experience as a player in both the Premier League & Championship,

But as a manager he is not so experienced, his first permanent position was only in November 2022 when he was appointed Hull City manager, he faced Saints in two games last season when his Hull side narrowly missed out on the play offs finishing 7th.

With the season barely finished Rosenior was sacked, with Hull City owner, Acun Ilicali saying that Rosenior had been sacked over a difference on football philosophy between the two with Ilicali wanting attacking football and Rosenior unable to offer that as a manager.

He was not out of work long, on July 25th 2024, he was appointed Head coach of Strasbourg on a 3 year contract.

In his 26 matches so far for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 he has presided over 26 games, winning 13, drawing 7 and losing just 7.

That sees Strasbourg 7th in Ligue 1, Paris St Germain are top with 68 points, 19 points ahead of their nearest rival, Marseille who are in 2nd with 49 points, Monaco are 3rd with 47 points and Strasbourg are just 4 points behind them, so there is still a lot to play for this season.

That beggars the question as to why Rosenior would swap a top flight European League and potential European qualification, perhaps even in the Champions League for the Championship.

Despite his lack of experience he might be a good fit for Southampton, but I suspect this is more about his agents looking to improve his contract in the summer at Strasbourg.
