Pundit blasts 'jumbled thinking' amid Ruud van Nistelrooy's Leicester City problems

Chris Sutton has added his voice to the chorus of Leicester City’s critics, saying it is ‘sad’ to see how poorly they are performing and says the Foxes were wrong to get rid of Steve Cooper.

Speaking on BBC 5Live, the former Chelsea and Celtic striker, was discussing the travails of Premier League basement dwellers Southampton – and City, who have lost 13 of their last 14 matches.

While the Saints have only nine points and are certain to be relegated, City are nine points from safety with only nine matches remaining. Sutton reacted to the 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

“I'd have given up being angry a long time ago,” Sutton said. “I'd have just started supporting somebody else because I mean they've been so desperate.

“Southampton have been terrible for a while now. I watched bits of the Leicester vs Manchester United game and I found it so dull, not from Manchester United's perspective.

“It's actually sad to see how bad Leicester actually are and how miles off it they are, a real lack of intensity. We've spoken about Leicester before on the Monday Night Club where I think their fanbase expected them to challenge higher up the table.”

Sutton reiterated his belief that the Foxes made a mistake by replacing Steve Cooper with the unproven Ruud van Nistelrooy. Asked if they were right to get rid of Cooper he said: “I didn't think so. It was more to do, and this isn't on Ruud van Nistelrooy, it's not a criticism of him, the sort of muddled up, jumbled thinking of how he got the job.

“People can say what they like but it was off the back of a couple of results for Manchester United against them. But they've been bitterly disappointing, they're going to go down.”
