Caoimhin Kelleher has already told Daniel Farke just what Leeds United need to hear

Leeds United will have to put their transfer plans on hold, for the time being anyway, as they go full steam ahead trying to win back their place in the big time. As things stand, Daniel Farke and his promotion-chasing squad are in pole position - if only marginally - in their ongoing battle with Sheffield United and Burnley.

Put simply, three into two won't go and one of those clubs will have to settle for a spot in the play-offs. The much bigger picture is what impact their end-of-season fortunes will have on the summer window.

By and large, Leeds and their main rivals will be shopping in different markets, depending on whether or not they 'escape' from the Championship this season. Improvements will be desired across the board if Leeds do go up and one interesting name has, seemingly, been thrown into the mix between the sticks.

Liverpool goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, has emerged as a proposed target for Farke and his recruitment team at Elland Road. However, as per GiveMeSport, that would-be swoop is entirely dependent on promotion.

The 26-year-old is thought to be in-demand as, when deputising for Alisson Becker at Anfield and beyond, he has more than proven his worth as a Premier League goalkeeper. The Whites' current No.1 Illan Meslier has, meanwhile, seen his performances put under the microscope following one or two high-profile errors this season.

Kelleher to Leeds might be fanciful, certainly at this stage, but the Republic of Ireland international has effectively already told Farke what he wants to hear. During a bombshell interview earlier on this season, Kelleher stated how open he would be to leaving Liverpool and making his way as a first-choice stopper at the highest level.

"I got the taste for it and I want to do it all the time," the Irishman told The Athletic.

"My main ambition is to be a No.1 and it would be great if that happened at Liverpool, but I'm not silly. I know that Ali [Alisson Becker] has been the best goalkeeper in the world for years."

Kelleher went into further detail in a follow-up interview. Speaking in September, he added: "My ambition is to go out and play and be a No.1. I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a No.1 and play week-in, week-out.

"The club's made that decision to get another goalkeeper [Giorgi Mamardashvili] and so, from the outside looking in, it looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction now."

On the proviso Farke is looking for a new goalkeeper, Kelleher has told the head coach exactly what he needs to hear, not only through words but also his performances for club and country. Now the focus is on Leeds to be in a position to give the Irishman - or other proposed targets - what what want with a Premier League spot.
