Everton’s Jesper Lindstrøm has insisted he feels as if he is getting closer to being at his best and contributing goals and assists as he should be.
[Tipsbladet](https://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/landshold/vigtigt-emne-man-maa-ikke-tale-hoejt-om-det) cover comments from the Everton loanee today in which he admits he knows he’s not been good enough this season.
Lindstrøm has been on loan at Everton since the summer, joining on loan from Napoli as he looked to bounce back from a miserable time there.
Things have not gone smoothly on that front as he’s struggled to make an impact, with no goals to his name so far and just one assist coming in the recent 1-1 draw with Wolves.
That is not how he or Everton saw this season going but there have been signs of improvement over the past few months, particularly since David Moyes replaced Sean Dyche in the dugout.
Lindstrøm certainly thinks that things are improving for him but admits he’s been frustrated with his numbers this season.
_“It’s annoying because you want to score goals and make assists as an offensive player. I had a tough year in Naples and am now starting to find the rhythm here (in Everton), so I’m not nervous about it not coming,”_ he said.
_“I have shown that I can make goals and create chances, I just need to find the melody up in front of the goal and maybe just train a little finishes._
_“But I feel that I’m getting closer and closer, and I also think that I’ve been a little unlucky, but they also say that bad luck doesn’t really exist in football.”_
Fortunately for Lindstrøm he’s found an Everton fanbase who’ve been far more accommodating to him than those in Naples.
He became a focus of criticism for the Napoli fanbase during his time there, with them frustrated that he could not replicate the form he’d shown with Eintracht Frankfurt that led to the club paying €30m for him.
He admits that he was very aware of the criticism aimed at him, the irony being that you’re not allowed to counter it with positivity when things are going well.
“Yes, but we also just live in a world where you can’t talk out loud about how good you are. It’s easy to read social media, and people try to pull one down, they’re not trying to pull one up,” he added.
“We just know the law of the jungle, if you say something wrong, it’s everywhere the next day. But I really think that you should say what you want and do what you want, and then you have to be responsible.
“As I said, it has been a tough year in Naples, but I have learned some things. I have learned that you should not read and listen to what others say, but instead just focus on your own development and work hard. The best things happen to those who wait the longest.
“You can’t avoid reading social media when you’re on your phone, but you can’t help but absorb it and absorb it. It’s something I’ve worked on.”
