Manchester United have missed out on a deal for Geovany Quenda and it could end up having a disastrous knock-on effect.
Everything seemed rosy when Manchester United agreed personal terms with Geovany Quenda. It appeared to be a matter of time until the 17-year-old reunited with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Amorim gave Quenda his debut at Sporting and remains a huge admirer of the young winger, but United’s deal has been hijacked.
Chelsea swooped for Quenda and agreed a £42m deal for the youngster. United wanted Quenda immediately but the Blues agreed that he could stay another year in Portugal and join in 2026.
It is a blow for Ineos and their transfer plans, but it could also trigger an unwanted domino effect.

Geovany Quenda collapse could see Jadon Sancho return
United are already eyeing Quenda alternatives, but Ineos may soon face a familiar problem in the shape of Jadon Sancho.
Sancho joined Chelsea on loan in the summer and details of the deal claimed there was an obligation to buy him for £25m at the end of the season.
However, Sancho has been in awful form at Stamford Bridge, and now Chelsea are having second thoughts.
More United News
Sancho could return to United in the summer if Chelsea choose to pay a “significant” penalty fee to rip up the contract.
According to iNews, Chelsea will consider cutting their losses on Sancho and sending him back to United knowing that Geovany Quenda is arriving in 2026 to bolster their winger options.
Quenda prefers to play in a more advanced winger position rather than as a wing-back, which is another reason why he perhaps preferred a move to London.
Jadon Sancho returning to Man United would be disastrous
It is fair to say that Sancho has burned all bridges at United since leaving for Chelsea in the summer.
Sancho’s “freedom” dig with Marcus Rashford was incredibly petty and enough to make United fans turn on the 24-year-old if they hadn’t already.
Sancho took a pay cut to join Chelsea. He was desperate to leave and he will be desperate not to come back. That feeling is shared by everyone at Old Trafford.

Sancho has been blasted as “immature” at Chelsea, but hopefully he does just enough to convince the Blues that he should stay in the summer.
Even if Sancho did make a return to Manchester, Ineos are planning without him so focus would be on finding him a new club.
