Newcastle United survey: Cup glory and the next steps

Newcastle United's Carabao Cup win will go down as one of the greatest moments in the club's history. The incredible scenes at Wembley as Liverpool were beaten will never be forgotten by those who were there or watching around the world.

Eddie Howe's men swept aside 70 years of Wembley pain to win at the famous stadium for the first time since 1955. That long wait for a domestic trophy was finally put to bed amidst emotional scenes from players, management, backroom staff and, of course, the fans.

The players have now departed in various different ways, some on international duty and some on a club training camp to Dubai. Newcastle's next fixture is not until April 2 when they host Brentford at St James' Park in what is sure to be a raucous, celebratory evening.

Before then, of course, there is the big Tyneside celebration. Details are still to be released about the parade and party on March 29, when all the players will be back and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to descend on the city.

On the football front, however, there is still so much to play for. A spot in next season's Champions League is still on the agenda with United chasing a top five finish which looks likely to guarantee qualification. Given the importance of it to the club's short and long-term financial position, it's a prize almost as big as the cup win itself.
