Napoli are reportedly set to entice Manchester United's £72m mega flop Rasmus Hojlund back to Serie A this summer - with a huge potential twist.

Since his colossal transfer from Atalanta in August 2023, the Danish forward has endured a miserable time in front of goal, bagging just 13 times in the Premier League.

Yet Antonio Conte's side have earmarked him as a target in their forthcoming attacking overhaul, aligning with their ambitions for European competition next season and giving Ruben Amorim the chance to recoup some much-needed cash.

The ex-Chelsea and Tottenham manager is keen on bolstering his squad with up to seven new signings, specifically seeking extra firepower to challenge Romelu Lukaku up front.

Despite finally breaking his 21-game goal drought at Leicester City last weekend, its understood United would be open to offers for Hojlund during the upcoming transfer window, reports the Mirror.

And any deal with Napoli could see Nigerian hotshot Victor Osimhen go to Old Trafford as part of the deal, following the Super Eagles' striker's fallout with the club.

Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported the Danish star would be open to returning to Serie A, although his current club value him at £50m, figure that could be out of reach for the Serie A side. However, Napoli, flush with cash from the £59m January deal involving Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris-Saint Germain and anticipating a possible £63m summer windfall from Osimhen's potential full move following his loan at Galatasaray, might find themselves in a position to spend big.

Osimhen's impressive tally of 26 goals across competitions has garnered interest from heavyweight clubs like Paris-Saint Germain and Juventus, while both Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly scouring the market for striking reinforcements.

After a successful shopping trip in the Premier League last summer that saw Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour switch to Naples, Napoli are currently placed second in Serie A.

Speaking after his goal in the 3-0 win over Leicester, Hojlund, 22, said: "I think it comes down to my performances as well. I think obviously I've not been on top of my game as I wanted to and we're still adapting to a new system and some new positions. But I think I've been growing into it lately and starting to look a bit better.

"But I'm just happy to get on the scoresheet and I'm sure they will come more now. I'm happy, but it's not all about goals. I'm obviously very happy to get my goal and it gives me a lot of confidence.

"I think we're starting to get a bit more of a connection between myself and the players, then starting to understand what my qualities are even more and playing to them as well.

"I'm developing and starting to understand their qualities as well, and that's what the manager wants. He wants us to play to our strengths and now we're starting to find each other even better.

"He also wants me to stretch the pitch. I think that's quite obvious, and to get me into the channels and keep keeping the centre-backs occupied.""That's what I'm trying to do. I think I've got a good amount of speed and that's what I'm here for."
