As the international break kicks into full gear, several Liverpool stars find themselves scattered across the globe representing their national teams.
Perhaps the most intriguing fixture involves the Reds’ Dutch contingent, with Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch all set to face European champions Spain in a high-stakes UEFA Nations League quarter-final on Thursday evening.
The first leg at Rotterdam’s De Kuip stadium represents a significant challenge for the Liverpool trio, with Spain arriving as reigning European champions and boasting a perfect record in their Nations League group stage.
Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez will likely welcome the temporary escape from Anfield scrutiny as Uruguay prepares to host Alexis Mac Allister’s Argentina in a heated World Cup qualifying clash on Friday night.
While these established stars command the headlines, an unexpected development at Scotland’s national team training camp has caught the attention of Liverpool supporters.
Liverpool U16 left-back Cameron Williams (16) was called up to train with the Scotland senior squad on Tuesday. He’s very well thought of and is now an U18 regular at Liverpool. Pictured at the back during the session, Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower revealed the news.

Born on November 24, 2008, Williams has already established himself as a regular fixture for Liverpool’s U18 side despite being just 16 years old
Williams’ development has accelerated dramatically over the past year. After debuting for Liverpool’s U18s in significant fixtures against Manchester United earlier this season, he has gone on to make eight appearances at that level, accumulating 632 minutes of playing time in the 2024/25 campaign.
His performances have drawn praise from academy coaches who appreciate his attacking instincts from the left-back position.
The young defender has previously represented England at U15 level, making his debut on April 26, 2023, before switching his allegiance to Scotland5.
He made his Scotland U16 debut on November 8, 2023, and has since progressed to the U17 level, participating in UEFA European U17 Championship qualification matches5. His dual eligibility stems from his birth in Liverpool, England, while having Scottish heritage.
