Look back to Forest's 3-0 win against Derby
Reds secured Rams rout in 2003
Harewood's brace and Huckerby secured famous win for Forest
In recent times, March 19 brings about memories against Derby County which we’d rather not think about, and today we won’t be, instead reflecting on a much brighter day for those in Garibaldi.
March 19, 2003. The City Ground was packed to the rafters for Nottingham Forest’s clash with the Rams and come the final whistle, there would be smiles across Nottingham following a resounding win for Paul Hart’s Reds.
Forest flew out of the blocks early at The City Ground, seeing a David Johnson goal ruled out in the first two minutes before on-loan forward Darren Huckerby could only drive the ball over the bar from an Andy Reid corner.
The pressure was continuous from the Reds, and with Derby pressed back against the wall, Forest made their dominance pay and opened the scoring on 13 minutes.
Reid was in the thick of the action once more, floating the ball over for Marlon Harewood, who outjumped Paul Boertien to head home his 39th goal for the club.
With The City Ground bouncing, the roof was about to come off the stadium two minutes later when Huckerby got himself on the scoresheet to double the Reds’ advantage.
Reid was once again causing troubles on the Forest flank, sending the ball towards Johnson. His header came back off the crossbar where the on-loan Huckerby was waiting to nod the ball into the empty net.
Forest were rampant and could well had added at least three more to their tally before the break, with the visitors showing little sign of mounting a fightback.
The points and bragging rights were secured barely five minutes into the second period when Steve Elliot was adjudged of have handled the ball inside his own box. Penalty given.
Up stepped Harewood to pick out the bottom right corner, despite Lee Grant in the Derby goal just getting a hand to the ball.
Victory belonged to those in Garibaldi on a famous night under The City Ground lights. A date certainly worth remembering.
