Community Discussion: Free agent frenzy?

Manchester United don’t have a lot of room for spending in the upcoming summer transfer window, which is not a great spot to be in with such a lengthy list of needs. Reports from the January window suggest that United are trying to avoid operating in the red as often as they have in recent years in order to comply with PSR and FFP rules, meaning their spending on transfers will likely be down after spending heavily last summer.

With that in mind, there are plenty of options in free agency to fill temporary roles as United gets back on track. The problem is that most players on expiring contracts are on expiring deals for one reason or another. Most of the players are 25+ years old and have a lot of miles on their legs, and some have lengthy injury histories. Beyond that is also the concern of tactical fit.

So, who sticks out? (Here’s a list from Transfermarkt of players on expiring deals)

Who is a band-aid quick fix? Who is a long term fit? Are there any appealing options out there apart from Roony Bardghji, who will almost certainly have better options despite being named after a Manchester United legend?
