Tottenham Hotspur might look to sign 26-year-old Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea also keen on landing him.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Caoimhin Kelleher is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. However, a deal for the Liverpool goalkeeper might not see the light of day, as Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky are not going anywhere anytime soon. Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland international is also a target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window.
Caoimhin Kelleher and his Liverpool frustration
Caoimhin Kelleher has had to bide his time since breaking into the first-team squad at Liverpool FC a few years ago. The Irishman has been with the Reds for nearly a decade, graduating from the fabled academy at the Merseyside club after starting his youth career at Ringmahon Rangers.
The 26-year-old has been Alisson’s deputy throughout his spell with the first-team squad at Anfield. Kelleher has turned out over 50 times thus far for Liverpool while keeping 23 clean sheets and conceding 76 goals. However, the Irish goalkeeper’s time with the Premier League club will likely end in the summer transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Liverpool. In addition, Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive from Valencia after the 2024/25 season ends. So, Kelleher must leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Chelsea’s interest in Caoimhin Kelleher makes sense. While the Blues have a stacked goalkeeping department, Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have blown hot and cold this season. So, Chelsea should invest in a top-notch goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, with the Liverpool stopper emerging as a viable target.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, it is perplexing that Kelleher is on the North London club’s wishlist. The Lilywhites signed Antonin Kinsky in the winter transfer window, while Guglielmo Vicario is their first-choice goalkeeper. So, it is unclear how the Liverpool goalkeeper fits into the scheme of things at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Give Me Sport has claimed that Tottenham will unlikely land the 26-year-old Irishman in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, recent reports have pointed to Bournemouth being optimistic of signing the Republic of Ireland international from Liverpool.
