Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres - Arsenal striker transfer verdict made

It is well-documented that Arsenal will be aiming to invest heavily in the summer transfer window with the bulk of that spending aimed at the acquisition of a brand new centre-forward. Not just any striker but one with the ambition to turn the club not into once-again title challengers but title winners.

There are some notable options that the club could look to and most fans have a good idea of their names. Yet what is not agreed on is who of those players the club should spend a broad range of different financial commitments on.

With that said, football.london looks at the three players to assess what the pros and cons are of each to come to a conclusion. There is a chance at the end to have your own say in our poll.

Alexander Isak

Arguably the most high-profile and anticipated player of the summer window for far more than just Arsenal, with several clubs keen on the Swedish international. Isak has just helped himself to a League Cup winner's medal after scoring what proved to be the decisive goal in the final against Liverpool.

This was his 23rd goal of the season in 33 matches, adding five assists to the tally too. The Premier League experience and readiness is what makes Isak such a great option, at 25 years old he is still approaching his best years of his career but with that comes the biggest transfer outlay with some reports claiming that Newcastle would be looking for a fee in the region of £130million.

Now, following a financially beneficial window in 2024, Arsenal have room for some major investments but this would still eat into the majority of it and potentially affect the ability to spend elsewhere. Furthermore, of our three forwards discussed, Isak has by far the worst injury record which can be read about in greater detail here.

Benjamin Sesko

At the other end of the price range (if you count £66million as the other end) is Benjamin Sesko. The 21-year-old is also a much younger profile compared to the other two striker options and has the lowest output too.

However, that tally remains impressive with 17 goals and six assists in 36 games across all competitions for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. A team who this season ranks well inside the bottom half when it comes to shot creation.

He has a good record of scoring in big games, having scored this season alone against Bayern Munich, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. The tallest of the three, his potential is well-known and interest from Arsenal dates back to last summer and an investment in Sesko would allow for greater spending on wide players, midfield and the defence too compared to the more expensive players.

Viktor Gyokeres

Last on the list is another player Arsenal have kept tabs on, although has gone quieter in discussions on the striker front since before the summer of 2024, Viktor Gyokeres. Another Swedish international, his is the most prolific of the three, scoring 40 goals in 41 games across all competitions with ten assists, following on from his 43 goals in 50 games last season – 15 assists too – and therefore solidifying himself as far more than just a one-season-wonder.

The caveat remains, however, as the oldest player on the list and turning 27 in June, that he plays in Portugal for the best team in the league. He is regularly scoring big tallies against teams that would certainly be in the lower tiers of English and German football.

He has a €100million (£84million) release clause putting him much closer to Sesko's fee than Isak's. The question will remain whether he could translate his goal volume from a league such as the Liga Portugal to the Premier League.

Those are the three options, have your say in our poll down below.
