Joe Hart says he played with a £24m midfielder at Manchester City who was actually better than…

Manchester City have been blessed with midfield talent over the past 15 years or so.

David Silva is Manchester City’s greatest ever player according to some, while Kevin De Bruyne is an all-time City great as well.

Rodri is the current Ballon d’Or holder too, so it’s fair to say City have had their fair share of brilliant midfield players.

Speaking to LiveScore, Joe Hart has been asked to compare some of the City players from his generation to the current crop of talent.

The goalkeeper was asked to choose between Rodri and Yaya Toure, and he gave an interesting answer.

Hart had some very difficult decisions to make as he took part in this challenge.

The England legend picked Sergio Aguero over Erling Haaland, and while he acknowledged that Rodri is the best player in the world right now, he chose Yaya Toure over the Spain star.

“Aguero or Haaland?” Hart was asked.

“Well, purely on personal reasons, I know Sergio well, and we did a lot together so I will pick Sergio, but Erling Haaland is actually my favourite player at the moment,” Hart said.

“Rodri or Yaya Toure?” Hart was asked.

“Yaya or Rodri. Rodri is a Ballon d’Or winner, the best in the world at the moment, but I have so much love for Yaya and what he did when I was playing, so I’m going to pick Yaya,” Hart said.

Yaya Toure’s incredible 2013/14 season

Hart picked Yaya Toure over Rodri, and while that is a big call, it’s easy to understand why.

Indeed, the £24m man was one of the best players in the world in the mid-2010s, and if it wasn’t for the ridiculous level of competition during his era, perhaps he’d have been in the Ballon d’Or mix too.

Just look at Yaya Toure’s stats from the 2013/14 season, this was a midfield player who was doing things that pretty much no midfielder has done before or since.

Rodri is so important to this Manchester City teams, but Toure was scoring 20 goals a season while also dictating everything in the middle of the park.

There’s a reason Micah Richards is always so in awe of Toure.

Somehow, Toure remains an incredibly underrated player, and there’s an argument to make that the Ivorian should have a statue outside of the Etihad alongside Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and David Silva.
