Nuno Tavares has big sell-on clause
The Gunners are expected to part ways with Nuno Tavares permanently this summer. He is now playing hi football with the Italian side Lazio. They could make a huge sum due to the big sell-on clause on if Lazio makes his sale.
The left-back is super talented. He has been showing his qualities in the Serie A. But Mikel Arteta wasn’t impressed with him in north London. He first joined the club in 2021 at 21-years of age. He had a very limited game time during his debut season.
The Portuguese U21 was a stand-in substitute for Kieran Tierney in the 2021/22 campaign. However, the team dynamics changed after some new arrivals. Arteta changed his plan after signing Oleksandr Zinchenko. Since the Ukrainian joined, he was the preferred first choice in the team.
Tierney lost his place in the starting line-up. He then was filling in for absence of the Ukraine international. Tavares was seen as too young and unreliable for Arteta’s system. He was then loaned to clubs like Nottingham Forest and Marseille.
The north London side agreed on a loan move for the player with Italian team Lazio last summer. Reportedly, that deal included a £7 million fee option to buy. Although, more reports claim that the Serie A outfit may have to pay only £4 million to sign the Portuguese international. The left-back is having a great spell in Italy as of now. And it looks like Lazio are likely to trigger the clause to sign the player permanently.
Nuno is thriving in Italy
The 25-year-old had eight assists in his first eight games in his Serie A career. He has been thriving in the attacking sense under head coach Marco Baroni. He has created a strong relationship with Mattia Zaccagni. Mattia prefers to make runs infield, ahead of the Portuguese.
CBS Sports pundit Mike Grella said: ” I haven’t seen a player like that in Italy…maybe ever.”
Although, he hasn’t managed to register a goal contribution since end of October, he still performs great at his position. He has been impressive down the left flank. The defender has received high praises for his recent game against AC Milan. Football pundits have applauded his performance in Lazio’s 2-1 win at the San Siro.
