It seems that Arsenal may be looking to do some shopping at Liverpool this summer.
Recent high-profile defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United have exposed concerning vulnerabilities in the club’s attacking department, igniting fresh debate about an over-reliance on Mohamed Salah and the inconsistency of other forward options.
As the Reds lick their wounds during the international break, plenty of reports have already emerged that Arne Slot could look to rework his forward line.
While Salah’s dip in form has received the most attention, Liverpool’s other attacking options have equally failed to deliver in crucial moments.
Luis Diaz, despite playing in a more central role at times this season, couldn’t influence either high-profile defeat, while Darwin Nunez’s crisis of confidence continued after missing a critical penalty against PSG.
Meanwhile, Diogo Jota’s has endured another injury-riddled campaign.
The Portuguese striker has failed to find the net in ten consecutive games and delivered a particularly disappointing performance in the Carabao Cup final, recording just 16 touches in 57 minutes before being substituted
Speaking in the most recent episode of the Overlap, Jamie Carragher hit out at some of the players in Liverpool’s forward ranks:
“We’ve bought all these players after Salah arrived, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota – they’re all good players, but these are not great players,” he stated.
“Salah is not even a great player, he’s a once in a generation player lifting all of them up and carrying them with him.”
And as Liverpool’s forward line faces scrutiny, Arsenal have begun exploring the possibility of capitalizing on the situation by making a summer move for Luis Diaz.
According to a report from TeamTalk, the Gunners are monitoring the Colombian international as a potential summer transfer target.
Diaz has been at Liverpool since January 2022 following a £37.5 million move from FC Porto, and he immediately becoming a fan favorite for his work ethic and creativity on the flanks.
This season, the 28-year-old has contributed 13 goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool , not awful numbers but they have been in bunches and not over a consistent period.
While the report claims the Colombian is not a top target for the Gunners, it’s a player that Mikel Arteta has his eye on.
This comes after David Ornstein confirmed there was ‘definitely something’ in the Manchester City/Arsenal links last summer.
