Alexander Isak and a potential transfer could be one of the defining sagas in a summer market set to open just a few months now.
This week, Fabrizio Romano asserted that Liverpool have initiated contact with the Swedish international’s representatives ahead of a potential summer transfer.
Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has personally urged the club’s decision-makers to resist any summer bids for the forward.
It has been a hot situation ever since the turn of the year, and the Carabao Cup final has only put more eyes on the 25-year-old.
Newcastle’s ability to retain Isak could hinge on their final league position.
With England securing five Champions League spots for the 2025/26 season, Eddie Howe’s team currently sits sixth in the Premier League, just one point behind Manchester City and Chelsea.
Qualification for Europe’s elite competition is viewed as essential if the Magpies hope to fend off interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, the player himself has now given a big indication to where his future lies, potentially coming as a big blow to Liverpool’s hope of landing Isak.
Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen during the international break, the Magpies forward has admitted his love for Newcastle United and the city as a whole:
“There’s not much to say, really,” he replied when asked by the outlet in Marbella, Spain.
“I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.”
He then made the admission over his deep bond with his side:
“It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I’m not thinking about the future.”
“I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That’s where my focus lies.”
The substantial asking price Newcastle will demand will likely be a sizeable profit margin on the £63 million they invested to bring Isak from Real Sociedad in August 2022.
Therefore, any move for Isak would likely shatter Liverpool’s transfer record, currently standing at the £85 million package paid for Darwin Nunez. Reports suggest Newcastle would demand well in excess of £100 million for their prized asset.
