Borussia Dortmund have moved to secure the future of Nico Schlotterbeck, offering the Germany international a new contract that would see him become one of the club’s top earners and a potential captain.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who is reportedly on the radar of Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, now looks set to extend his stay at Signal Iduna Park beyond his current deal, which runs until 2027.
Schlotterbeck’s performances for Dortmund have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, with Premier League and La Liga giants closely monitoring his situation.
However, Dortmund’s hierarchy, led by Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl, have made it clear that he is central to their long-term plans.

Under the new deal, Schlotterbeck will reportedly double his salary, which currently stands at €5 million per season, making him one of the highest-paid players at the club.
The agreement would also see him become Dortmund’s captain, replacing Emre Can, as the club looks to build its next generation around him.
Schlotterbeck has become a fan favorite at Dortmund, with his aggressive style, defensive ability, and emotional celebrations epitomising the club’s DNA. However, Dortmund’s Champions League qualification could be a decisive factor in finalising the extension.
