While it may yet be a while until the summer transfer window opens, work will already have started for Liverpool and their rivals in preparation for the off-season. After a relatively quiet first summer window under Arne Slot, it looks set to be a busier one this time around.
The Reds have been linked with several players already, but it’s not just incomings to keep an eye on, with players also potentially leaving the club. One of those could be striker Darwin Nunez.
The 25-year-old has struggled for form throughout the campaign. In his 40 appearances this season, he has scored seven goals and provided a further seven assists.

It has led to speculation that he could move on when the summer window opens, three years after his £64 million (a figure that could rise to £85m with add-ons) move to Anfield. Here is a look at the latest surrounding Nunez’s future.
Liverpool stance
Liverpool are willing to sanction a summer move that will see Nunez leave Anfield, according to TalkSPORT. The striker has struggled to hold down a regular starting place under Slot.
Any potential exit will come just three seasons after his arrival from Benfica in the summer of 2022. The report says that Liverpool are ready to consider offers in the summer window.
Atletico Madrid response
The same report claims that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are among the clubs considering making a move for Nunez when the window opens. The team will be on the lookout for a new striker with Antoine Griezmann expected to leave the club at the end of the season.
Previous reports have claimed that Atletico are eyeing an initial loan deal with a £30 million obligation to buy at the end of the season. Should that figure prove to be correct that it would represent less than half of what Liverpool outlaid for the forward.
Nunez’s admission
Amid speculation over his future, Nunez himself has made a frank admission about his current performances. Upon arrival to international duty with Uruguay, the striker told El Pais: "I'm happy thinking about the national team, enjoying every minute with it.
"As I said recently, I'm not someone who throws in the towel because they don't play, but rather I'm going to keep working so I can play.
"I know I'm not performing as well as I should. It's difficult because when you're doing well, like when I came on against PSG, your confidence changes, with the idea of being able to break it in the next match.”
He added: "(I want) to forget a little about what's happening there (at Liverpool), and besides, there's nothing more beautiful for a player than wearing your country's jersey."
