Stuart Pearce is surprised by a development regarding Jarrad Branthwaite away from Everton.

The 22-year-old has been one of the best players at the Toffees this season, playing an influential role under Sean Dyche and David Moyes.

It isn’t surprising to see top teams like Real Madrid eyeing a move for Branthwaite ahead of the summer transfer window.

Moyes will hope the centre-back’s contract at Goodison Park is extended before next summer to fend off interest from top clubs.

Thomas Tuchel surprises with Everton defender Branthwaite exclusion from England squad

Branthwaite’s exclusion from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad is surprising, Pearce says.

Pearce can’t believe the Toffees’ centre-back isn’t involved with the Three Lions as they face Albania and Latvia in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Speaking on talkSPORT (19 March, 9:11), the 62-year-old said: “I’m quite surprised that Branthwaite wasn’t involved in it, I’ve got to say. He’s a little bit of a surprise.”

Branthwaite exclusion an error from Tuchel for England squad

Tuchel has made a mistake by leaving Branthwaite out of his list for England’s senior setup.

Instead, the Three Lions’ manager has called up 32-year-old Dan Burn, highlighting the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) boss’ short-term vision.

Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah has also been handed an opportunity over the Blues’ centre-back, which arguably makes little sense.

Quansah has failed to get regular minutes this season, while Branthwaite has been influential for the Toffees.

Moyes has all but secured Premier League safety, and his 22-year-old defender has formed a brilliant partnership with James Tarkowski.

The Merseyside outfit failed to win their opening five fixtures in the Premier League this season without Branthwaite, and his inclusion in the team changed things.

Tuchel should have definitely picked the 22-year-old, but it looks like he has other ideas ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

It will be a shame if the English centre-back can’t make the Three Lions’ senior setup for the upcoming major tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Branthwaite has done enough to be in the England team, and Tuchel’s decision is rightly being scrutinised by many.
