Who is top 2025 NFL draft prospect Cam Ward?
The 2024 NFL draft delivered a historical number of high-performing rookies on the offensive side of the ball.
And, in particular, it provided a class of quarterbacks who, for the most part, have already backed up their pre-draft hype with exceptional first-year performances at the professional level.
The 2025 quarterback class is not considered to be nearly as deep nor as talent-packed. But the signal caller currently considered the best of the bunch is a prospect worthy of his top billing and a player who has taken an unconventional path to likely becoming the No.1 draft pick.

Cam Ward was not a highly recruited player coming out of high school. With no scholarship offers from major colleges, the native Texan joined unheralded NCAA Division II school Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
Ward started 13 games in his second season with Incarnate Word and finally caught the eye of scouts at top programmes thanks to a return of 4,648 passing yards and 47 touchdowns.
He transferred to Division I outfit Washington State in 2022 and, despite the team’s mediocre record, powered the Cougars to notable upsets over Wisconsin and Oregon State and a Pac-12 championship in his second year.
Ward threw 48 touchdowns in 25 starts over his two years with the Cougars, before finally moving on to a big-time programme in the shape of the University of Miami of the ACC.
In Miami, Ward elevated evaluations of his NFL readiness with a nation-leading 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He led the Hurricanes to contention for a place in the College Football Playoffs, narrowly missing out on the 12-team bracket after finishing with a 10-3 record.
Ward’s year with the Hurricanes not only saw him shoot up the draft board, but he also set a record for the most career touchdowns in college football history (158).
Viewed now as the consensus top quarterback in the 2025 draft and the likely No.1 overall pick – whether that sees him land with current first-pickers the Tennessee Titans or elsewhere via a trade – Ward has demonstrated a level of creativity with his throws, the arm strength to target all three levels of the field and the big-play ability to be an exciting prospect in the NFL.
