Rangers are expected to be under new ownership for the 2025/26 season with the San Francisco 49ers poised to complete the takeover.

Relevant paperwork has now been filed with the deal set to go ahead in the coming weeks.

A number of things are on the to-do list as the NFL giants aim to make Gers the best team in Scotland again.

San Francisco 49ers have “lofty” plans post the Rangers takeover

While improving on the pitch is certainly a priority for the Americans, they also want to make changes behind the scenes.

TEAMtalk reported on 19 March that they have “lofty” plans for the development of the club once the takeover is finalised.

They have plans for the neighbouring areas of Ibrox as well and they aim to have a positive impact on the local area.

The report reads: “The local area may see a major uplift due to the investment, with sources stating that that ‘revenue streams outside the club are being explored’, adding that ‘these would impact the local area positively and put Rangers at the heart of the community’.”

Paraag Marathe must help revolutionise the Ibrox outfit

The San Francisco 49ers, upon finalising their takeover, can transform the club by blending on-pitch ambition with off-field innovation.

To reclaim Scotland’s top spot, they should target a league title challenge within the next year, leveraging a hefty summer 2025 transfer budget to sign game-changers like Vaclav Cerny permanently and bolster key positions.

Behind the scenes, adopting their data-driven NFL model – spearheaded by Paraag Marathe – can overhaul recruitment and scouting for efficiency.

Beyond football, their “lofty” plans should include community-focused revenue streams which should mean developing Ibrox-adjacent areas with training academies, fan zones or commercial hubs to boost local employment and engagement.

Targets for next season include a serious title challenge, if not a win, a domestic trophy, and a 20 per cent increase in non-matchday revenue through these initiatives.

By prioritising competitiveness and community uplift, the 49ers can cement Rangers as Scotland’s premier club and a local cornerstone.
