Alan Shearer reacts after Micah Richards shares what he's 'heard' about Man City and Alexander…

As outstanding as Alexander Isak is, Manchester City are probably one of the few clubs who do not necessarily need to sign him due to Erling Haaland being on their books.

Haaland is arguably the best goalscorer in the world and in Omar Marmoush, City have a second striker in place as well — which would potentially make the Newcastle United marksman a needless signing for them.

However, there is no disputing that Alexander Isak is having a tremendous season for Newcastle.

While Robbie Savage still prefers Haaland to Isak, the Swedish international has a case for being the most in-form number nine in the Premier League currently.

Interestingly, Manchester City were interested in signing Isak in 2021 when he was at Real Sociedad.

Shearer initially said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “Isak can do whatever he wants. I’m never ever saying a bad word against him ever. Mind you, I don’t think I have anyway, but…”

When Gary Lineker asked the Newcastle legend about how he would react if the 25-year-old left Newcastle, Alan Shearer replied: “Oh, you have to spoil a good afternoon, don’t you? We’re on a lovely afternoon. He’s not leaving.”

Alan Shearer said: “There is no bigger club he could go to than Newcastle. Why would he leave Newcastle?”

Micah Richards claimed City and Arsenal are interested in signing the Carabao Cup winner: “I heard Man City and Arsenal are after him.”

But Alan Shearer doubts Manchester City will even be able to afford a move for Isak: “They’d have to sell their grounds to afford him. They couldn’t afford him.”

How much will Man City have to pay to sign Alexander Isak?

If Manchester City do make a move for Isak, that would be a message to the rest of the Premier League that they are not willing to wait to become the champions of England for too long.

The prospect of Pep Guardiola having the luxury of picking from a roster that includes the former Real Sociedad striker, Haaland and Marmoush would be a frightening one for their title rivals.

But GiveMeSport revealed that Newcastle will only entertain a £150 million bid for Isak.

Manchester City could spend big this summer but splashing a fee of £150 million on a single player might eat into most of their transfer budget.
