Manchester United look set to add a striker in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United will already be looking ahead to the summer transfer window in order to add players who can thrive under Ruben Amorim.
They have had issues with scoring goals this season, as the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have combined for just six goals in the Premier League, a number that needs improving regarding the striker position.
Hojlund scored his first goal in 21 games in a 3-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last weekend, which will give Amorim encouragement. However, the United boss will be keen to sign a striker in the summer, and the Red Devils have been linked to several names.
United have a four-man striker shortlist for the summer
United have been linked to several strikers including Sporting CP target man Viktor Gyokeres due to his relationship with Amorim. The Sweden international has scored 28 goals in 25 league matches for the Portuguese side this season, singling himself out as one of the most prolific strikers in world football.
He is expected to have a £83 million release clause in the summer, but United could offer Sporting a lower fee in the hope that Gyokeres would want to join back up with Amorim at Old Trafford.
According to a report by the Mirror, the Red Devils have also shortlisted Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen and Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike - all of which have been linked to Premier League rivals Arsenal. Sesko is expected to cost around £70m and looks set to leave RB Leipzig due to all the interest surrounding him this season.
Osimhen’s future is less certain, as he is currently on loan from Napoli at Turkish side Galatasaray, and will most likely seek a summer transfer due to falling out of favour with the Serie A club.
Man Utd add Delap to four-man shortlist
The same report by the Mirror includes that Manchester United have added Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap to their shortlist after his impressive first season with the Tractor Boys.
The former Manchester City striker has made 28 Premier League appearances for Ipswich this season, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists. The report says that he is being monitored by Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, whereas City also have a buy-back clause if they want him to return to the Etihad.
It looks all but certain that the 22-year-old will leave Portman Road in the summer as Kieran McKenna’s side look destined for relegation back to the Championship. They are currently 18th nine points away from safety with just nine games remaining.
If Delap does become available in the summer, United could make a move for the English attacker as a cheaper alternative to the likes of Gyokeres, as Delap is expected to be worth around £30 million.
