Zelenskyy says ‘lasting peace’ possible after positive Trump call

President Zelenskyy has said he believes that lasting peace in Ukraine is possible this year – after what he described as a “positive” phone call with Donald Trump.

According to the White House, Mr Trump suggested that the United States should take ownership of Ukrainian power plants to ensure their security – while Mr Zelenskyy agreed to halt strikes against Russian energy infrastructure.

More talks between the US and Ukrainian officials will take place in the Middle East in the coming days.
