Liverpool are unlikely to reignite their interest in World Cup winning striker Julian Alvarez in the upcoming summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has told the media that Liverpool were keen on signing the forward last summer (2024).

Alvarez eventually made the move to Atletico Madrid from Man City for a fee in excess of £80million.

Hidalgo has left the door open to potential Liverpool interest with his latest quotes, claiming now is “not the right time to talk” about Alvarez’s future and insisting he is “fully focused” on Atleti.

However, sources say a move for the Argentina international will be “difficult” to pull off in the upcoming summer window.

Alvarez has had a big impact in Madrid and would command a huge transfer fee and contract, while Liverpool would not want to exceed £80million.

Meanwhile, the former Man City striker was keen to leave England last summer and it is unlikely he will push for a return so soon.

Alvarez has hit 23 goals and notched five assists in 44 appearances across all competitions this season.

He hit 36 goals in 103 appearances for City, winning the Champions League and two Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool in pole position to sign England star

Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 March) that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea will also be in the race for his signature.

Arne Slot’s side are searching for a new centre-back with Virgil van Dijk out of contract at Anfield in June and attracting Bayern Munich interest.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Friday (14 March) that Liverpool have yet to reach an agreement with Ibrahima Konate over a new contract.
