Eddie Howe has been nominated for Freedom of the City after Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win.
The Newcastle United manager made history on Sunday, as he guided the Magpies to Carabao Cup glory at Wembley.
Eddie Howe becomes the first Toon boss to win a domestic trophy since 1955, as he well and truly cements his legacy on Tyneside.
He is now a club legend, with Newcastle fans calling on Howe to get a statue. It is surely certain that he will receive one in the future.
In the meantime, Newcastle City Council leader Karen Kilgour has nominated Howe to receive Freedom of the City.

What is Freedom of the City?
While Howe has been nominated, he is yet to receive the honour. His nomination must be approved at a full council meeting.
It is the highest honour that the council can bestow upon an individual or a group. It was actually awarded to Newcastle United Football Club in 1993 to celebrate more than 100 years of sporting achievement.
Once the nomination is approved, Howe will be an honorary freeman of Newcastle. It is a status that cannot be passed on.

Once Howe’s freeman status is approved, his name will be carved into the walls of the Banqueting Hall in the Civic Centre.
The other Newcastle United figures who have Freedom of the City
Howe is not the only Newcastle United figure to receive the Freedom of the City.
The honour was also bestowed upon Alan Shearer in December 2000, Sir Bobby Robson in March 2005, Freddy Shepherd in April 2017 and Shaka Hislop in May 2022.
Eddie Howe will now join that list, but he is the only one to win a trophy with Newcastle United.
