Mike Vrabel was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Tennessee Titans in 2023 after two straight seasons in which the team failed to make the playoffs. Brian Callahan took over for Vrabel, but in his first season at the helm, the team ended up regressing and had the worst record in the entire league.
Vrabel has since rebounded and accepted a head coaching position with the New England Patriots this offseason, where he made an effort to sign several of his former Titans players. He continued to do so on Wednesday as ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that the Patriots were signing former Titans linebacker Jack Gibbens to a one-year deal.
Gibbens found his way to Tennessee as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He worked his way onto the active roster toward the end of his rookie season and put together a nice five-game stretch before bursting onto the scene as a full-time starter in 2023.
During his sophomore season, he played in 14 games and recorded 95 tackles, 1.0 sacks and 3 passes defended while playing just 66% of the team's defensive snaps. He regressed last year under coach Callahan, however, and new general manager Mike Borgonzi did not tender him, which means he was a free agent.
He will now reunite with his former coach in New England on a roster loaded with linebacker talent. It will be a gut punch to Titans fans if Vrabel is able to have success this year with several of the franchise's former players.
