What the San Francisco 49ers are doing to Brock Purdy is unfathomable.
Aside from stripping down the team and getting rid of most of his weapons and not replacing them in free agency, the team is dragging its feet in offering their franchise quarterback an extension of his contract.
After the conclusion of the 2024 season Purdy put the 49ers front office on notice he wanted to start negotiations of his new contract forthwith. He has been playing under a rookie contract which pays him league minimums.
Purdy deserves better. He should have had his contract renegotiated after the Super Bowl 58.
The Buffalo Bills just extended Josh Allen's deal and that should be the standard for Purdy as he is to the 49ers what Allen is to the Bills. Purdy also was grossly underpaid when he took the 49ers to the Super Bowl following the 2023 season.
But for a missed extra point in regulation, the 49ers might not have gone to overtime with the Kansas City Chiefs and could have won the game outright in regulation. Purdy was at his finest that evening.

Some might argue Purdy is not in the upper echelon like Allen and is more along the lines of Sam Darnold, Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa or Geno Smith. However, the difference is Purdy should be compensated for bringing San Francisco to the Super Bowl and for playing for peanuts the last three seasons.
Trevor Lawrence, who has accomplished nothing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, signed a contract last offseason with an average annual value of $55 million per season. That is the neighborhood Purdy belongs in.
Fans have a reason to be wondering the same thing: Why isn't this done? And if it's because the 49ers undervalue this QB ... why is that?
