On March 16th, Ambassador Zhang Lizhong attended the opening ceremony for the bilateral training course in Uganda on charcoal processing through utilization of wood & bamboo, and delivered a speech. Catherine Nassuna, Under secretary of Ministry of Water and Environment, Margret Adata, Commissioner Forest Sector Support Department of Ministry of Water and Environment,Flavia Nabugere, Secretary General of Uganda Bamboo Association, Prof. Wu Tonggui, Deputy Director General of the China National Bamboo Research Center, officials, experts and 30 trainees attended the ceremony as well.

Ambassador Zhang said that the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperationconcluded with a big success. The relation between China and Uganda has been elevated to the level of comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, facing important development opportunity. It is believed that the training will contribute positively to the implementation of the "Bamboo Industrial Technical Cooperation Project" under the framework of Ten Partnership Actions, supporting the capacity building for the bamboo industry, as well as tapping the potential of bamboo industry in Uganda.

The Uganda side said that the training is highly suitable and timely for Uganda's national bamboo strategy. They hope that the bamboo production, processing and utilization technology can take root in Uganda, supporting local people with jobs and more income. Furthermore, they expressed the willingness to further strengthen the cooperation with China in water resources and environmental protection.
