He was one of Carlo Ancelotti's favourite Everton players, now he's facing Premier League…

Everton offloaded several players last summer.

Sean Dyche moved on eight first-teamers, with Amadou Onana the big sale as he completed a big-money move to Aston Villa.

Everton were still operating under strict limitations due to PSR issues, so they needed to raise cash to avoid another breach.

Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey were also sold on permanent transfers, with the latter making the switch overseas to Atalanta.

However, Ben Godfrey’s Italian experience didn’t go to plan and now he’s on loan at Ipswich Town, though, he’s finding it tough.

Ben Godfrey can’t get a game for Ipswich Town

When Everton paid £20m for Ben Godfrey in 2020, he joined with a big reputation after impressing at Norwich City.

Godfrey enjoyed a productive start to his career on Merseyside and manager Carlo Ancelotti was a big fan of him.

“If Gareth is watching Ben Godfrey then he is right,” Ancelotti said. “Gareth doesn’t need advice from me but to see and watch Ben Godfrey at this moment, in this period, is a pleasure for any manager.

“He has surprised me because I didn’t know him so well [when he signed]. He was a signing from the club, from our scouts, and he has been really good. He has been able to adapt very quickly to different positions.”

Unfortunately, once Ancelotti left, Godfrey’s form started to dip and Dyche decided to sell him on a permanent deal in the summer.

Now at Ipswich, the 27-year-old can’t get a game despite being in a side near certain to suffer relegation to the Championship.

Godfrey has played just two league games for Ipswich

Godfrey joined Ipswich on a six-month loan in January but he’s struggled to get into Kieren McKenna’s side.

The former England international has played just two games in the Premier League and hasn’t made a single appearance since mid-February.

Godfrey has failed to win over McKenna and Ipswich Town fans, who were already sceptical due to his Norwich connections, haven’t been convinced by his performances.

His rapid decline since leaving Goodison Park is certainly a sad sight to see.
