‘He’s quality’: Jordan Pickford gives Everton the green light to re-sign £47m star this summer

Everton should be using this international break as an opportunity to get some plans in place for the summer

It should be a busy summer for the Toffees as David Moyes is going to need a number of players to come through the doors at Finch Farm.

There are numerous players set to leave the club over the coming month, with Abdoulaye Doucoure one player expected to leave Everton at the end of his deal.

Everton fans are likely going to see considerable player turnover on Merseyside over the coming months.

One man who will be staying is England’s number one, Jordan Pickford, who has enjoyed another stunning season between the sticks.

Pickford is away with Thomas Tuchel’s England side and has now given Moyes the green light to sign what would be a blockbuster summer addition to bolster the squad.

Jordan Pickford green lights £47m Everton summer signing

The Friedkins are being tipped to spend some money at Everton in the summer transfer window after a quiet January.

Former Everton defender John Stones is expected to leave Manchester City over the coming months.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Pickford has now named the £47m Premier League winner as his favourite defender to play alongside.

“Stonesey, obviously won everything with City – won the treble. Probably close to 100 caps for England,” he said.

“He’s so good with his feet, but the amount of blocks [he makes], and the way he stops the shots coming towards me because he’s got that technique. He’s quality.

“I remember playing with him for England U19s, Germany away.”

Moyes does want to see new defenders signed, after being left without any additions to his backline over the winter market.

Whether Stones would be attracted to a potential return to Merseyside is another question following nine stunning years with City.

What David Moyes previously said about John Stones

After signing for City, Stones has gone on to win everything there is in club football with Manchester City.

Everton can boast one of the strongest defences in the Premier League, once again.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been praised at Everton for his efforts alongside the ever-reliable James Tarkowski.

However, adding a real winner like Stones could prove a big move for the Toffees over the summer transfer window.

And it would be the signing of a player who their 61-year-old manager thinks a lot of.

‘This boy’s coming on like nobody. He’s coming on with great quality and great ability on the ball and he’s playing with really good defenders and that’s what’s surprising me a bit about Everton,’ he told Sky Sports back in 2016.

‘But John is different, he’s very comfortable on the ball, which gives the side a good starting point. They like to start games from the back, but John will go on to big things, I’ve no doubt about that.’
