Laurie Whitwell provides Ayden Heaven injury update, setback might not be as bad as initially feared

Manchester United are waiting to discover the diagnosis of Ayden Heaven’s injury after enjoying a brief breakthrough from the youngster in the heart of defence.

It has been a turbulent season for Manchester United, with few positives, especially in domestic competitions. Ruben Amorim’s side is still competing in the Europa League and will need to go all the way to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

United are sat 13th in the Premier League and Amorim has several injury problems to deal with, including Lisandro Martinez, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

With the March international break underway, 12 United first-team members are away representing their countries. The other players will get some time to rest and recharge their batteries over the following two weeks.

Then, it will be a matter of finishing the season as strongly as possible. That includes beating Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals.

It would help if Amorim didn’t suffer any more injury setbacks.

Ayden Heaven expected back after international break

Ayden Heaven joined United from Arsenal for a bargain £1.5 million deal in January.

The 18-year-old made his full Premier League debut in United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday. Heaven got the nod after impressing in his earlier outings against Real Sociedad and his former club Arsenal.

For the first 45 minutes, Heaven was among United’s top performers before suffering an injury at the beginning of the second half. He required a stretcher to leave the pitch but Andy Mitten later reported that the young centre-back left the King Power Stadium wearing a protective boot.

Now, it seems Heaven’s condition is not as serious as initially feared.

According to Laurie Whitwell, who reports on United for The Athletic, the youngster has been seen at Carrington without a protective boot.

The reporter went on to suggest that Heaven might be available to return to action after the international break.

“Ayden Heaven has been at Carrington without a protective boot,” Whitwell told Talk of the Devils.

“You just surmise from that, it’s not going to be too long after the international break that he returns hopefully.”

This news will delight United fans because Heaven looks like a promising prospect that will get game time between now and the end of the season.

It shows United can benefit from Ineos prioritising young players in the transfer market and Arsenal will be kicking themselves.

Heaven already dropped hint over recovery

Amorim gave very little away in his post-match comments after beating Leicester, which means we are unlikely to hear from the United head coach until everyone returns from the international break.

Heaven took to Instagram to update his followers on his injury by providing a positive update, thanking well-wishing supporters and revealing: “I’m doing really well and recovering fast.”

It remains to be seen how long Heaven will be sidelined for, but the chance of him returning to play a role before the end of the season now appears good.

United fans will be delighted with this news, but they’re likely to remain anxious about the situation until the club announces something official on the matter.
