Despite the Mavericks’ injury struggles and playoff uncertainty, Anthony Davis remains determined to return this season. The team prefers caution, but Davis, currently rehabbing in the G League, could rejoin Dallas as early as next week.
The Dallas Mavericks have battled injuries all season, with Kyrie Irving out for the year due to a torn ACL and key players like Derrick Lively, Daniel Gafford, and Dante Exum sidelined. Despite this, Anthony Davis remains determined to return before the season ends.

According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, the Mavericks have attempted to convince Davis to sit out, but he is 'steadfast' in his decision to play, potentially as soon as next week.
“[Anthony Davis] is steadfast in his determination to want to return this season, maybe as soon as next week despite the fact there are people within the Mavericks organization that have tried to talk him out of it," the NBA insider reported.
Davis made an impressive debut for Dallas on February 8, scoring 26 points in 31 minutes before suffering a hip injury that has kept him out since. Currently rehabbing with the Mavs' G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, Davis has been participating in 5-on-5 drills. His competitive nature drives him to return, but considering the team’s situation, the risk may outweigh the reward.
Dallas holds a 33-36 record, sitting 10th in the Western Conference with a likely Play-In Tournament appearance. However, with so many key absences, including Irving, their playoff hopes appear slim. While Davis’ desire to contribute is admirable, prioritizing long-term health makes the most sense.
