The New England Patriots are close to addressing one of their biggest problems in recent seasons: lack of star power in the wide receiver position. According to Chad Graff of _The Athletic_, the Pats are hosting free agent All-Pro receiver Stefon Diggs for a visit.
The Pats have struggled to land a game-changer at the WR position in recent years, despite making attempts to land the likes of Brandon Aiyuk and Tee Higgins. But if they manage to land a proven playmaker in Diggs, that could soon be forgotten.
Graff points out that the Pats and Diggs are yet to finalize a contract agreement. However, if the visit goes as planned, that would be just a matter of time.
Stefon Diggs would immediately slot into the No. 1 wide receiver role with the Patriots and the main target for the team’s talented quarterback Drake Maye. This is likely why Diggs is attracted to New England, as a high number of targets would allow him to rebuild his value after a down year in 2024.
Diggs is coming off his least-productive season as a pro, although injuries played a significant part in that. He was limited to just eight games, catching 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns as a member of the Houston Texans.
Prior to suiting up for the Texans, Diggs also played with the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills. He has 857 career receptions for 1,0491 yards and 70 TDs while receiving four Pro Bowl nods and being named First-team All-Pro in 2020.
