Tottenham Hotspur face an uphill task to land Fiorentina striker Moise Kean in the summer following Arsenal links
Ange Postecoglou had hoped to build on a fine debut season at Tottenham Hotspur. He was backed relatively well during the summer transfer window with the expectation of making progress in the Premier League this campaign.
However, things have gone from bad to worse for Spurs. Ange Postecoglou’s side were humbled by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday which turned out to be their 15th defeat in the Premier League. They are already out of the domestic cup competitions, meaning the Lilywhites’ only realistic route to Champions League football lies in winning the Europa League.
After a disastrous campaign, wholesale changes are expected to happen with Postecoglou’s future already under a lot of scrutiny. Tottenham signed Antonin Kinsky, Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso during the January transfer window, backing their head coach when his squad was decimated by a glut of injuries. After signing Tel on loan from Bayern Munich, the club officials want to further bolster the forward ranks.

This is perhaps because Spurs are reportedly open to offloading Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Timo Werner when the transfer window reopens. Werner’s loan move will not be made permanent, and there are huge doubts over the future of Richarlison owing to his fitness concerns. On course to enter the final year of his contract, Son could be cashed in following his massive dip in performance levels.
Therefore, Tottenham are scouring the market for new forwards. Fiorentina striker Moise Kean has been attracting interest from the North London club in recent months. The Italy international previously had an unsuccessful spell at Everton, scoring only two goals in 32 Premier League appearances. But since moving to Fiorentina from Juventus last summer, he has been simply phenomenal.
One of Serie A’s best strikers this season, Moise Kean has been on fire, scoring 20 goals and giving three assists in 34 appearances for Fiorentina. This has also led to the 25-year-old attracting interest from several other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle United.
Ange Postecoglou would desperately want to sign a back-up for Dominic Solanke this summer
According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal are among a few clubs to have made “first contacts” for Kean ahead of a possible summer move. The Vercelli-born talent’s release clause of €52million, in particular, has enticed the Gunners.
Arsenal joining the race for Kean is a big blow for Tottenham. Unlike Spurs, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have had a solid campaign and are looking to strengthen the team even more in the summer. Their title charge has fallen off the cliff particularly due to injuries at the top end of the pitch and a lack of clinical goalscorer, which Kean has proven to be in Florence this term.
