A look at the latest surrounding Cole Palmer as the Chelsea star bids to return from injury.

Chelsea have been without their likely player of the season recently as they continue their battle for a top four spot. The Blues are locked in an intense battle for Champions League football, with Manchester City, Newcastle United and others in with a shot of reaching the top four, while fifth place could also become a Champions League spot.

An important run awaits the Blues on the other side of the last international break, but when will they get their star man Cole Palmer back? Here we take a look.

What is Cole Palmer’s injury?

Palmer picked up a muscular injury recently, injuring his hamstring. It is not clear how serious the hamstring injury is, but it has seen Palmer miss the ongoing England camp. The Chelsea star did not officially withdraw from the England squad in case he was able to return to fitness, but Morgan Gibbs-White has been brought in instead, so it seems as though he won’t be part of the two March fixtures.

What games has Palmer missed?

For Chelsea, Palmer has missed just the one so far, sitting out for the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League. Remarkably, that was the first Premier League game Palmer has not started for Chelsea this season. As mentioned above, he will also miss the England fixtures with Albania and Latvia.

When will Palmer return for Chelsea?

Palmer is hoping to return for Chelsea on the other side of the international break when the Blues face Tottenham on April 3. According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have ordered another scan on Palmer’s hamstring, and it is hoped that the scan will provided a clearer timeline of his recovery.

Chelsea hope to have him back for that Tottenham game, but the second scan will give them a better idea of whether or not that is ambitious.

What Maresca has said

Maresca has suggested that the enforced break could be good for Palmer, who has played a tonne of football this season. The Chelsea boss said last week: "We don't wish for a player injury but in Cole's case it gives him some rest, mentally and physically. So it could be good.”
