Liverpool’s long-serving left-back Andy Robertson has experienced a notable decline in form this season, falling short of the exceptional standards he set during his prime years at Anfield.

The Scotsman, a cornerstone of the club’s success under Jürgen Klopp, has found himself under rare criticism this season amid a transitional period for both the player and the team.

While the 31-year-old remains a key figure under new manager Arne Slot, debates about his form and future have emerged among fans and pundits—a departure from his near-universal acclaim in previous years.

This performance dip has reportedly prompted the club to prioritize recruiting a new left-back in the upcoming transfer window, with several promising candidates already being evaluated by Arne Slot’s team.

The likes of Milos Kerkez have already been linked to the club, and it is expected that the Reds make a move for the Hungarian in the summer.

Robertson’s performance issues can be partly attributed to the cumulative effect of playing “full-throttle football” for seven consecutive seasons at Liverpool

While Robertson has been a tremendous servant for Liverpool, unquestionably one of the finest signings in the club’s history, the reality of professional football dictates that even the most celebrated players eventually need to be replaced.

But according to Robertson, the time for him to move on from Anfield is not now while speaking at a Scotland press conference:

“I think we’ve been linked with pretty much every left-back in the world,” said the 31-year-old as quoted by BBC Sport.

“But, look, that’s part and parcel of it. You play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and you’ve been very lucky – well, I wouldn’t put it down to luck – but I look back on these eight years that I’ve had here as the starting left-back at one of the best clubs in the world for that long and that’s something I’m very proud of.”

The left-back then revealed that he feels he has more to offer this Liverpool side in the future:

“Your time comes,” admits Robertson.

“I don’t think it’s my time yet but whatever happens with the club and whether we do bring in somebody or we don’t bring somebody in then so be it. I think I’ll always back myself.”
