Journalist shares what he's now heard about Arsenal potentially going for Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish could be the talk of the summer transfer window, as the Manchester City star looks to be on the chopping block. Could he about to make a sensational move to Arsenal?

Jack Grealish has been one of many bitter disappointments for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City in 2024/25.

The 29-year-old has scored just twice and assisted five more in 26 total appearances this season, with the former Aston Villa man having been an unused substitute in four of City’s last six games in all competitions.

Ahead of the summer, there’s speculation that Grealish could leave Manchester City, just four years after he broke the club’s transfer record in a £100million move from Aston Villa.

And in rather spectacular fashion, journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing the possibility that Grealish could leave City and head to Arsenal.

Speaking on Highbury Squad on YouTube, Jacobs was quizzed on whether or not Grealish could become a target for Mikel Arteta’s side in the summer, and if so, how much City could realistically command for the midfielder, who’s just been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Jacobs said: “I think Jack Grealish has a massive decision to make because he’s heading into a World Cup year, and it feels like he’s very distant from Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

“I’m not aware of the price, and part of that is because, believe it or not, Pep Guardiola is, ironically because he’s not starting Grealish week in week out, the driving force at this point, in keeping Grealish.

“The manager has so much faith in Grealish, even if only as a squad player, that Grealish has never really agitated for a move, and now we’re going to head into a summer where he may have to.

“Obviously, there’s nothing yet linking Arsenal and Grealish. But as you rightly say, there might be a deal there to be had. And I would guess Manchester City, who don’t stand in their players’ ways would value Grealish’s outgoing, similar to Raheem Sterling, in that kind of £45million mark.”

John Terry urges Jack Grealish to ‘get out’ of Manchester City

For Grealish, the situation is certainly tricky. He may feel like he has unfinished business with City having yet to ever really fulfil the potential that his £100million price tag promised.

Guardiola remains a fan of Grealish’s and he’s often defended his ability and his form. But there’s no defending the fact that Grealish has had a poor season, and that he’s part of a group of players who perhaps City need to part ways with if they’re to move onwards and upwards.

There’d be plenty of Premier League clubs keen and likely interest from overseas too. And £45million might be all that City can claim back for the player, given his poor form, marking a huge financial hit on the club’s most expensive ever player.

Speaking recently, John Terry urged Grealish to leave Man City as well, highlighting the fact that he’s at his best when playing regularly, which is certainly true.

Terry said: “He’s at his best playing week-in, week-out, dominating. He’s one of those players who can get at defenders and drive teams forward. He needs to start playing and looking at his options. Man City haven’t been great this year, and he’s still not getting a look in. So, from his side, I’d be a bit worried and think I need to get out.”
