EU and UNDP in Georgia develop interactive Glossary on Disability-Inclusive Terminology

To promote and implement respectful language towards people with disabilities, the United Nations Development Programme in Georgia (UNDP Georgia), with EU support, has developed a Glossary on Disability-Inclusive Terminology.

The glossary in Georgian compiles all the key terms needed for proper and respectful communication with and about persons with disabilities. The authors also collaborated closely with persons with disabilities and their representative organisations to ensure this Glossary reflects their insights and experiences.

“The inclusive terminology is crucial in shaping how society views persons with disabilities,” says the glossary description. “Often, these terms are influenced by outdated stereotypes, impacting the recognition of equal rights. Using human rights-based terminology is essential for enhancing understanding and attitudes towards the rights of persons with disabilities, ultimately helping to eliminate discriminatory environments.”

The Glossary was prepared with support from the European Union and UNDP under the ‘Human Rights for All’ project.
