Marcus Rashford's move to Aston Villa from boyhood club Manchester United, completed before the end of the January transfer window, is reaping the benefits for club and player after a little over six weeks into the arrangement.

Rashford's performances in three different competitions for Villa have prompted new England boss Thomas Tuchel to recall the forward and involve him in his first squad ahead of the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers this break.

Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 426 games for Man United, still has three years left on his contract at Old Trafford from this summer, but Villa have the option of completing a permanent move for a fee in the region of £40m once this season ends, if it's a deal which suits all parties.

Former manager Martin Allen believes United ought to have a rethink about whether they truly wish to sever ties with Rashford in the summer, having witnessed from afar the upturn in his performances under Unai Emery; while he awaits his first goal, Rashford has returned four assists in nine appearances.

Ruben Amorim would appear to have already made clear his preference on whether to reintegrate Rashford or move the player on at the end of this campaign, but Allen thinks United's hierarchy should be having a meeting with Rashford this summer and reconsidering their current stance.

“He’s gone about it in the right way at Villa," Allen told Aston Villa News. “He’s shown by going to Villa, a willingness and in the games he’s played he’s had an impact and made a difference. Manchester United should be looking now and asking, ‘If he can do it for them, why can’t he do it for us?’.

“They need to get him in the office in the summer and say, ‘We want you to be part of Manchester United and not Aston Villa because if you’re going to play like this, we want you to do it for us'. Aston Villa look much stronger with him, Villa have done really good business.“
