Veteran offensive tackle Cam Robinson joins Texans in free agency

Cam Robinson has been a popular name in regards to the New England Patriots’ apparent vacancy atop the left tackle depth chart. However, the former Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings tackle will not join the team and reunite with his former coach, Doug Marrone.

Instead, Robinson has signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans. According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the deal is worth $12 million with incentives potentially bumping it up to $14.5 million.

Robinson, 29, was seen as a potential fit with New England given that he was drafted by Marrone back in 2017. The Patriots’ current offensive line coach, Marrone served as the Jaguars’ head coach that year, and spent the 34th overall selection in the Alabama product.

Despite the connection and the Patriots currently having Vederian Lowe as their No. 1 left tackle — let alone the resources to make a move — the team did not bring Robinson aboard to compete for the starting role.
