Lille striker Jonathan David has admitted he hopes to play in La Liga in the future, despite stressing he remains open about his future ahead of the expiry of his contract this summer.

Manchester United are set to strengthen their attacking options in the summer window and David is a prolific striker who will be available to move to Old Trafford on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old is allowing his Lille contract to run down and has rejected new deals in France. Only Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe recorded more goal involvements than David in the calendar year of 2024 and he's been linked with United, Juventus and Inter Milan.

David has 23 goals for Lille this season and has found the back of the net against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Liverpool and Feyenoord in the Champions League.

The Canadian international has proven his quality against some of Europe's most elite sides, and he discussed his future again this week in the latest episode of It’s Called Soccer!.

"To be honest, I think I can adapt to every League. Every league has their differences. I think the Premier League is a lot faster and more physical than all the other leagues," David said.

"But I grew up watching a lot of La Liga. I wouldn’t say that would be my preferred league, but I think that’s a league that I enjoyed watching the most… I think one day, I would like to play there. But will that happen? I don’t know. I’m not opposed to anything, and we’ll just see where the future takes us."

David continued: "I've had difficult moments, especially my first season and even my first two seasons at Lille. I think I had a dry spell, but now I'm scoring so much.

"But for me in those situations, it's about putting your focus on the work, so doing extra after training and always working hard, and knowing something will happen.

"Knowing I've put the work in gives me more confidence on the pitch, knowing that I did what I could, so I have no regrets. Normally, I'm more of a reserved, shy guy, but moving to different countries makes you evolve as a person and makes you come out of your shell. You have to get involved.

"As a player, everywhere you go you have to adapt because the culture is different, the playstyle is different, the players are different are there are different expectations of you."

David recently confirmed to French outlet Onze Mondial that he could leave Lille on a free transfer.

"Yes, I will be free at the end of the season. And as for my future, I hope to grow, to become a better player, and to play for the biggest clubs in the world, if I can," explained David.

"But first of all, I just want to have fun, never forget that football is fun. I started playing football because I had fun. And even though it has now become my job, you have to remember that I wake up every morning for football, for the pleasure of playing. Do you want any clues about my future?

"You will all know, in due time, that is at the end of the season. I will not comment before then. First of all, I want to finish this season well, the end looks exciting and I want to play well and help the team. And when the season is over, the decision will be made and announced."
