PGMOL have a lot to answer for as shocking Everton findings emerge - opinion

It’s proven to be a season full of refereeing errors and Everton fans have certainly had the brunt of it.

David Moyes’ rejuvenation of this Everton squad has been a class act from the Scotsman who could go one step further if Everton achieve European football this season.

Although an unlikely scenario, Moyes has come back to Goodison Park and done a stellar job.

This is of course no thanks to the Premier League referees who have made a bundle of errors this campaign.

With this considered, new findings have emerged that suggest how much of a burden refereeing has been on Everton, especially VAR.

Everton’s VAR net score revealed in Premier League this season

There are mixed opinions on the use of VAR in the Premier League, some fans love it and some fans loathe it.

Evertonians would certainly be on the negative side of things when it comes to the use of VAR this season.

The main incident that caused the most uproar for the Blues was the ‘mind-boggling’ penalty decision in Everton vs Man United, which saw the Virtual Assistant Referee overturn a clear penalty on Ashley Young.

With this taken into account, it’s not the only decision that has gone against the Toffees this campaign.

When looking at a deep dive into how bad it’s been for Everton this season, shocking findings emerge when it comes to the overall net score of VAR decisions this season.

Everton have a -3 VAR net score proving they have had more decisions go against them this season than for, as a whopping seven errors from the PGMOL puts Everton as one of the most affected clubs this season.

PGMOL have a lot to answer for with Everton decisions

This wouldn’t really come as a surprise to Toffees supporters who have seen the errors made first hand this season.

With seven decisions going against Everton it’s shown that even though form wasn’t great before Moyes, VAR didn’t exactly do Sean Dyche any favours.

The main one that springs to mind was VAR’s penalty error in Everton vs Brighton which saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin fouled by Lewis Dunk clearly, but referee Simon Hooper had to use a back-up monitor after a technical error was issued.

Another was Beto’s late disallowed goal against Southampton which was wrongfully chalked off after even Mike Dean thought Beto was onside.

Even though safety looks all but secured now under Moyes, had things continued with Dyche, this result could’ve proved pivotal in the fight for survival.

There are many more to list off, and although they’ve had few things go their way, Everton won’t stand for this shocking net score, and the PGMOL must improve.
