James Pearce drops encouraging Liverpool injury news after Ryan Gravenberch blow

Trent Alexander-Arnold is hoping to return from injury for Liverpool at some point in April, reliable journalist James Pearce has claimed.

The Reds lost the EFL Cup final to Newcastle United last weekend, with Alexander-Arnold’s absence through injury certainly not helping matters.

The 26-year-old was forced off in the 1-0 defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, with the severity of his ankle problem leading to concern that he could miss the rest of the season.

Alexander-Arnold was a huge miss for Liverpool at Wembley, with Jarell Quansah simply unable to offer his level of creativity from right-back, and Arne Slot will be desperate to have his vice-captain back as soon as possible.

According to The Athletic‘s Pearce on X, the Reds ace is “targeting” a return to the fold in April, which is arguably better news than many expected, alongside a worrying update regarding Ryan Gravenberch:

“Trent Alexander-Arnold targeting April return from high ankle sprain, while Ryan Gravenberch set to be assessed by Liverpool after leaving the Netherlands’ squad due to an injury he suffered in the Carabao Cup final.”

Much-needed injury boost for Liverpool

There is barely another full-back in Europe like Alexander-Arnold, in terms of bringing such a world-class level of quality from that area of the pitch, so not having him available has hurt Liverpool badly.

Ian Wright is one of so many pundits to laud him down the years, saying: “Trent’s masterclass that he put on today with his passing, it was, in the first-half in particular, absolutely unbelievable. His passes, the way he gets them through those lines, the way he puts it in there with purpose. In the right-back spot, he was getting back and doing his defending as well.”

This update is good news, however, meaning that Alexander-Arnold should play a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League title run-in, as they look to stave off any threat from Arsenal.

With doubts surrounding his future, too, some may have been worried that he may potentially have played his final game for his boyhood, but it looks like that won’t be the case, should he move on at the end of the season.
