Jose Mourinho would be an "explosive" next Rangers manager - but might not be the best choice for the incoming owners.
Barry Ferguson has stepped into the hot seat on an interim basis - and has boosted his chances of landing the job permanently by seeing off The Special One and his Fenerbahce side to reach the Europa League quarter-final before beating Celtic on their own turf.

But the likes of Steven Gerrard, Rafa Benitez, Russell Martin and Kevin Muscat have been floated as contenders to land the job when the takeover at Rangers is completed.
After taking Fener to Glasgow, Mourinho admitted he would be open to managing either Rangers or Celtic in the future due to the "passion" of the Scottish Premiership.
He would enter the home dressing room after the defeat in Europe to congratulate interim boss Ferguson - with some fans hoping he was checking out his new home.
And Pat Nevin reckons it would be a blockbuster appointment by the American tycoon Andrew Cavenagh - who is the leading force behind the Rangers takeover - and 49ers Enterprises once a deal is done.
Speaking to Casino Hawks, Nevin said: "The Rangers job as a mad outsider of Jose Mourinho?
"As a Glaswegian myself, it's like having a warehouse full of the biggest fireworks display you've ever had and there's been no rain for five years and you're walking about with a big flaming torch, if you put Jose in there.
"It will be absolutely explosive. Now he's used to it, all that madness he can deal with it. Just for the pure fun of it I think it would be incredible to see it.
"Would he be the best long term thing for Rangers? No, of course not. But it would be entertaining and might he win it one year? You never know."
While Ferguson has enjoyed an impressive stint in the Rangers dugout so far, Richard Foster reckons the that the Ibrox icon will know a glamour name is likely to be brought in once the takeover is completed.

The former Gers man told Go Radio: "It's his club, his boyhood club and the the club he captained. When the opportunity comes to manage them he was never going to turn it down.
"For me, he has went in with two feet - he has given it everything he has got. The Rangers fans expect nothing less.
"He has got a staff around him that, kind of, echo and mimic the way he is as a manager and a coach. So, the group is there.
"There is a lot of energy and football knowledge. But do I think he will get the job in the summer?
"When you hear of people like Rafa Benitez getting linked you think it might be a bit too much for Barry Ferguson to be the manager, and what the mindset is of the new owners when they come in.

"I believe they are quite analytical in the way they look at things. Would they go down the Brighton route and choose a manager that way? I don't know."
