Felix Nmecha is the latest player who is said to be of interest to Manchester United. And while Borussia Dortmund don't want to sell the Germany star, they are resigned to the fact that they may have to consider cashing in on some players due to their poor season.

The Red Devils are desperate to add more firepower to a squad that has struggled significantly for goals in the Premier League this season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee - a summer buy from Bologna - both recording poor returns. But Ruben Amorim also wants to shake things up in other areas of the squad he inherited from Erik ten Hag last year.

The Dutchman bolstered United's midfield with the capture of Manuel Ugarte in the months prior to his departure, although there are doubts over the long-term futures of both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

As first revealed by Bild, Nmecha is admired by United and they would be keen on adding the £40million-rated midfielder to their squad. The 24-year-old is among Dortmund's top stars, but their own struggles this season could mean a summer exit is inevitable.

Niko Kovac's side are unlikely to qualify for next season's Champions League after enduring a difficult period under his predecessor, Nuri Sahin, which has left them languishing in 11th place.

The report goes on to outline that such a situation would likely force the Bundesliga outfit to cash in on of their saleable assets, such as Nmecha. Dortmund could, however, consider selling one of Gregor Kobel, Jamie Gittens or Karim Adeyemi before Nmecha, who they desperately want to retain.

Interest in Nmecha will add further fuel to speculation that Casemiro and Eriksen will be available for transfer in the summer. The latter is due to be a free agent and has already been open in admitting that he is likely to be looking for a new club next season.

Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Eriksen recently ruled out a move to the MLS or his native Denmark, saying: “I still feel like I have good years left abroad. In Denmark, players often return to focus on family and end their careers that way, but I don’t feel like I’m there yet.

“It’s purely about football and where my career stands now. Honestly, I’ve spent more time abroad than in Denmark during my career, so moving home would almost feel like moving to a new country. But we’re not there yet.”
