Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess started for Australia as they played out a 5-1 win against Indonesia in World Cup qualifying.
The Socceroos came into the match in second place in Group C, sitting just one point ahead of the four teams beneath them in the table. That included Indonesia, who knew that they would move up into the automatic qualification places with a win in Sydney.
They had a chance to take the lead early on in the game as Rafael Struick was brought to ground inside the box by Kyle Rowles, but Kevin Diks missed the spot kick.
A VAR check saw Australia awarded a penaty of their own in the 18th minute after Lewis Miller was obstructed in the box. Martin Boyle found the back of the net, with Nishan Velupillay adding a second two minutes later.
Midfielder Jackson Irvine then added a third for Tony Popovic's side 10 minutes before half time, with Lewis Miller wrapping up the victory with a goal from a corner just after the hour-mark.
Oxford United's Ole Romeny did get one back for Indonesia towards the end of the match, but Irvine grabbed his second goal at the death as Australia secured just their second win of the third-round qualifying campaign.
Burgess played the full 90 minutes, earning his 12th cap for his country. The Socceroos are back in action on Tuesday, March 25th (11am GMT) as they face China in Hangzhou.
George Hirst, Cieran Slicker (both Scotland), Dara O'Shea, Jack Taylor (both Republic of Ireland) and Arijanet Muric (Kosovo) [could all earn caps this evening](https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/25016570.ipswich-town-11-players-called-march-2025-international-break/) (7:45pm).
