Champions League final venue for 2027'confirmed'as UEFA decision leaked

The 2027 Champions League final venue has reportedly been decided following UEFA's earlier decision to move the event from the San Siro due to "refurbishment works". The iconic Milan stadium was originally set to host the prestigious match as announced in May 2024, with Budapest's Puskas Arena confirmed for the 2026 showdown.

UEFA had stated in September that they would confirm a new location by June 2025 after concerns arose about potential disruptions at the San Siro. Their statement read: "As the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishment works in the period of the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to re-open the bidding process to appoint a suitable venue, with a decision expected in May/June 2025."

Despite this, it appears a decision has been made early, with Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium and the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan having expressed interest in hosting the final. Rafael Louzan, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), seems confident that the Metropolitano will be the chosen venue.

Speaking to Marca, as per Football Espana, Louzan said: "This year, Spain has the Europa League final at San Mames, we're also guaranteed the 2027 Champions League final at the Metropolitano in Madrid, and why not ask, with our support, for Seville to host one of the upcoming European finals in this stadium?

"I've been with [UEFA president Aleksander] Ceferin two or three times, and we'll ask him about the possibility of Seville hosting a city because we have the venue, the city, and a fantastic hotel infrastructure to host events of this nature."

The Wanda Metropolitano last hosted the showpiece Champions League final in 2019, seeing Liverpool clinch victory over Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 with goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi securing the win.

Despite its track record, the Metropolitano is not guaranteed to feature in the 2030 World Cup fixtures despite the tournament having Spain, Morocco, and Portugal as its main hosts. South American nations Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay are also set to welcome matches.

Initially listed among 11 possible venues by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), it was later disclosed by Louzan that the Metropolitano might step aside for Valencia's Nou Mestalla to come into the picture. "Atletico Madrid have said that, once again very generously, they would be willing, even if necessary, to give up their space so that Valencia could be one of the 11 venues currently granted to Spain," Louzan said.
